RATE 1A Billing Details

01 - Meter Reading Details

The Meter Reading Details section of your bill provides important information about your electricity meter. It shows your unique meter number and when your meter was last read, including the number of days covered in the billing period. The meter read type indicates whether it was an "Actual" reading (physically checked) or an estimate.

Your current and previous meter readings are displayed, and the difference between these readings is multiplied by your meter constant to calculate your total electricity consumption for the billing period, measured in kilowatt-hours (kWh).

This information helps you understand exactly how your electricity usage was measured and calculated for this billing cycle.

02 - Total kWh

This is the total energy in kilowatt-hours (kWh) used for the billing period.

03 - Base Charges

The first two blocks are billed up to 450 kWh each, and the 3rd block is billed for any usage in excess of 900 kWh. The price of electricity increases with each consecutive block. The fewer blocks you see on your bill, the lower the average price you are paying for your electricity. The more blocks you see, the more you pay on average. Watching this area on a regular basis will give you indication if there are certain times of the year - like during the summer - when it is best to conserve more in order to better manage your costs, visit PNM.com/save.

04 - Fuel Cost Adjustment

Just like prices at the gas pump, fuel costs can vary greatly for utilities. 100% of the fuel cost for traditional resources is included in the Fuel Cost Adjustment of the bill. The costs in this section are not related to customer-owned solar.

Non-Renewable: Covers the actual cost of fuel purchased to generate energy from traditional resources.

Renewable: This line is currently $0 because solar, wind and geothermal generation do not require fuel. The costs to maintain these facilities are recovered in the Renewable Energy Rider.

05 - Renewable Energy Rider

PNM produces enough wind, solar and geothermal energy resources to power the equivalent of 145,000 PNM residential homes or more than 25 percent of PNM customers. This charge supports our development of these resources and our commitment to a cleaner environment.

06 - Transportation Electrification Program

This monthly charge helps recover part of PNM's costs associated with the Transportation Electrification Program (TEP) which includes rebates, program administration, marketing, education, and outreach.

07 - Customer Charge

This monthly charge helps recover part of PNM's costs to provide electricity to your home as well as customer services. This charge remains the same regardless of how much electricity you use.

08 - San Juan Energy Transition Charge

The Energy Transition Act (ETA) includes initiatives for early retirement of coal plants to help realize carbon free goals for New Mexico. As part of our plan to provide customers with 100% carbon-free electricity, PNM closed the San Juan Generating Station pursuant to the ETA. All customers will see a monthly "Energy Transition Charge" to recover costs associated with the retirement on their bills. All rights to the Energy Transition Charges are owned by PNM Energy Transition Bond Company I, LLC. This statement is required by a ruling from the New Mexico Taxation and Revenue Department. It is to disclose that PNM is collecting the charges on behalf of PNM Energy Transition Bond Company I, LLC, who will own them.

09 - Cost-Effective Energy Saving

This credit reflects those dollars that were collected via rates even though the leases had expired. The credit is in effect from February 2024 until March or April 2026.

11 - City/County Franchise Fee

This fee is charged by cities and counties for the use of public rights-of-way to bring electricity to you. It is not charged by all cities and counties in New Mexico, so it only appears on your bill for customers in those areas.

The kilowatt-hours (kWh) of solar energy from your subscription that your Subscriber Organization sent to PNM for this period. PNM uses the kWh your Subscriber Organization provides to calculate your credit.

13 - Unsubscribed kWh

Extra kWh from the community solar facility that were not allocated to any subscriber and may have been applied to your bill this month only if your billed usage was higher than your Subscription kWh and the Subscriber Organization asked PNM to apply these credits. The total community solar kWh used to calculate your credits this month (Subscription kWh + any Unsubscribed kWh that could be applied, up to your billed usage).

15 - Community Solar Administrative Cost

This charge covers a portion of the cost to administer the Community Solar program and issue your credits. It is applied to the community solar kWh on this bill (subscription plus any unsubscribed kWh that could be applied) and is capped so the fee never exceeds the community solar kWh we applied.

16 - Cost-Effective Energy Saving Prog.

This pays for energy efficiency programs - such as refrigerator recycling, cooling rebates, and lighting discounts, as well as business programs. In the Community Solar section of the bill, it applies only to the Administrative Fee - not your solar credits.

17 - Community Solar Base Bill Credit

The main credit that reduces your energy charges based on your applied community solar kWh and the approved kWh Community Solar credit rate. This credit is set by the NMPRC and is based on PNM's tariffs.

18 - Fuel Cost Adjustment

A credit that returns the fuel and purchased-power cost portion associated with your community solar kWh, so you don't pay those extra costs on energy you received from the community solar facility.

19 - Renewable Energy Rider Credit

A credit for the value of renewable energy attributes tied to your community solar kWh on this bill (subscription plus any unsubscribed kWh that could be applied).

20 - City/County Franchise Fee

This fee is charged by cities and counties for the use of public rights-of-way to bring electricity to you. It is not charged by all cities and counties in New Mexico, so it only appears on your bill for customers in those areas.

21 - Franchise Fee and Gross Receipt Tax Credits

These credits are applied so you aren't charged local franchise fee or gross-receipt tax on the portion of your bill that's offset by Community Solar. These are calculated on the net bill subtotal and are limited so taxes and fees don't produce an overall refund by themselves.

22 - Community Solar Credits

This is the subtotal of all credits/charges, including franchise fees and gross-receipts tax, associated with your Community Solar subscription.

Community Solar Meter Reading Table

1 - Meter Reading Details
