2017 New Century of Service Grant Recipients
Congratulations to the winners!
62 Grants totaling $750,000 awarded to New Mexico nonprofits
PNM celebrated 100 years of serving New Mexico by awarding grants for 501(c)(3) nonprofit organizations that promote economic development and education within the PNM service territory. The grants were awarded to organizations that work to innovate new products and services that, in turn, grow and develop businesses in New Mexico; create collaborative community spaces for public use; and provide educational opportunities that support economic development.
The 2017 New Century of Service Grant $100k and $50k recipients are:
- Adelante Development Center, Inc. - Mike Kivitz - $100,000 for GiveABQ, an innovative donations cooperative project to develop the nonprofit environment by efficiently connecting nonprofits to the resources they need.
- Cultivating Coders - Charles Ashley III - $50,000 to fund technological education and workforce participation opportunities for high school students in Albuquerque South Valley and beyond.
The New Mexico organizations that have been awarded $10,000 include:
Alamogordo
- Imagination Library of Otero County - Fund family literacy night/parent read aloud trainings and "My Little Library"
- New Mexico State University Foundation Inc. - Help fund the Adult Education program at NMSU Alamogordo (NMSUA), a two-year college, for enhanced literacy programs offered during the 2017-18 and 2018-19 academic years
Albuquerque
- 516 Arts - Help fund Cross Pollination, an exhibition and series of public programs that offer a full immersion into the culture of bees and other pollinators
- ABQid Business Accelerator - Fund two Startup Weekends, three Lean Startup Bootcamps, and a Startup Showcase
- Albuquerque Hispano Chamber of Commerce - Help fund Emprende New Mexico's high-tech accelerator and community co-working space with an emphasis on Hispanic-owned emerging entrepreneurs
- Albuquerque Museum Foundation, Inc - Help fund The Education Center at Albuquerque Museum, a new expansion to the Museum, which will provide an innovative learning space where people of all ages have the opportunity to play, explore and experiment
- APS Education Foundation - Fund Albuquerque Public Schools DECA Chapters in participating in the 2017 Global Entrepreneurship Week and the 2017 DECA Idea Challenge
- Big Brothers Big Sisters of Central New Mexico, Inc. - Fund mentor2.0, which is a technology-enriched program embedded in high schools as a college curriculum course provided to students in a weekly class that continues over four years of high school
- Career Guidance Institute - Fund the expansion of ABQ Reads
- Catholic Charities of New Mexico - Fund English for a Special Purpose classes that are specific to entrepreneurship at the Hispano Chamber of Commerce
- CNM Ingenuity, Inc. - Fund CNM Ingenuity ecoMOD Home Construction and Internships project
- DowntownABQ MainStreet Initiative - Will help support the Three Sisters Kitchen's Local Foods Shop, which is a gathering space in the heart of downtown that celebrates local food and provides opportunities for local producers to test the marketplace
- Encuentro - Help fund the continuation and growth of their Home Health educational training and economic development program
- Escuela del Sol Montessori - Help fund the Galleries & Exhibitions programs, their Creative Roots Outreach programs including a paid apprenticeship in public art and the expansion of their 7th & Mountain community campus
- Explora Science Center & Children's Museum of Albuquerque - Fund a project that will engage school districts, program partners, education initiatives and leaders across the state in a concerted effort to assess and improve access to out-of-school time activities for children and youth in NM
- Fathers Building Futures - Help fund the New Mexico based pilot project Trucking for Futures is a collaborative job training trucking program designed to Impact NM's Businesses, Economy and ready-to-work citizens
- Fusion Theatre Company - Help fund the Fusion Forum project, which is a "cultural collider," a physical location combined with dynamic programming that will engender collision between entrepreneurs, practitioners, patrons and funders of the arts
- Girl Scouts of New Mexico Trails, Inc. - Helping to fund advanced STEM and Entrepreneur programming for troops located in Albuquerque's South Valley, Los Lunas/Bosque Farms and Belen
- Lifequest USA, Inc. - Fund a College and Career Fair for the youth who are incarcerated at the Camino Nuevo Youth Center and the Youth Diagnostic and Development Center
- New Day Youth and Family Services - Fund Life Skills Academy, which provides classes for youth ages 16-22 that build economic opportunity through developing employability skills
- New Mexico Child Advocacy Networks - Help fund Back on Track, which is a collaborative education transition program that reengages young people who are disconnected from education and provides flexible pathways to thrive in a learning environment on their own terms
- New Mexico Museum of Natural History & Science Foundation - Help fund The Da Vinci the Genius exhibit
- Rio Grande Community Development Corporation - Help SINC and their community partners kick off a full-blown, highly-visible campaign to fund an Albuquerque Impact Hub
- Rio Grande Community Development Corporation - Fund the New Mexico Community Data Collaborative to develop and share neighborhood data with local organizations that promote community assessment health in all policies and participatory decision making
- Rio Grande Community Development Corporation - Help fund the creation strong, healthy communities in Albuquerque by supporting local agricultural producers by providing an intensive farmer training program while establishing stronger demand for local food
- Saranam, LLC - Help fund Saranam's mission of providing homes while their clients get an education
- SpreadLoveABQ - Help fund a mobile learning lab
- True North Financial Ministries - Fund the Koach program, which leverages financial education, technology and personal financial coaching with the goal of improving financial management, decision making and financial outcomes
- University of New Mexico Foundation, Inc. - Fund UNM COE STEM, a project that provides opportunities for 400 underserved youth, ages 8-14 to experience six weeks of hands-on STEM opportunities in summer 2018 on the UNM campus
- University of New Mexico Foundation, Inc. - Help fund the Rainforest Building by purchasing some naming rights
- Wings for L.I.F.E. International - Help fund the Life-skills Imparted to Families through Education Program
- Women's Economic Self-Sufficiency Team (WESST) - Will help fund the production of a video to increase their outreach to the Spanish speaking population.

- Rural Community Assistance Corporation - Help fund The Entrepreneurial Leadership Program in Cochiti Pueblo
Corrales
- Corrales Mainstreet - Help fund a pathway between Corrales Elementary School and the Post Office (0.6 miles)
Deming
- Deming Luna County Economic Development Corp. - Help fund construction of the necessary electrical infrastructure to include solar lighting on walking/running trails to encourage a healthy living lifestyle for community members
- Asombro Institute for Science Education - Fund a three-lesson, multidisciplinary science education program to 20 classes of 2nd-4th graders (500 students) in Deming
Gallup
- Teach For America Inc. - Help fund world-class computer science education for up to 500 students in northwest New Mexico, primarily in rural and Native communities
Las Vegas
- New Mexico State University Foundation Inc. - Help fund the Seed-to-Plate Program in Las Vegas
- MainStreet de Las Vegas - Help fund Mainstreet improvements
Lordsburg
- Hidalgo County Heritage Society - Help fund the Community Resource Center and Park Project
Placitas
- Placitas Community Library, Inc. - Fund further transformation of their outside space into a multiple use, seasonal public hub to serve the community's need for a collaborative recreational and educational space
Rio Rancho
- Galloping Grace Youth Ranch - Help fund equipment and staffing for The Food Recovery Program
- St. Felix Pantry - Fund a learning lab in order to help clients get their G.E.D.
Ruidoso Downs
- Department of New Mexico Veterans of Foreign Wars - Help fund the expansion of the Veterans Service Program, which would allow a greater number of veterans, military and their families to access benefits
Santa Fe
- Community Learning Network - Fund the National TechHire initiative, which is designed to bridge the gap between education and real-life by connecting students and schools with Tech businesses and professionals
- Georgia O'Keeffe Museum - Fund support and facilitation of the Abiquiù Garden Internship Program for high school students
- MIX Santa Fe - Help fund bizMIX, which is a business accelerator with an incredible track record of attracting stellar entrepreneurs seeking to build lasting businesses in Santa Fe
- Museum of New Mexico Foundation - Help fund the "One Museum, Two Locations" initiative, which grows the institution's exhibition and collections capacity while enhancing funding for exhibitions, public education programs and community collaborations
- National Dance Institute of New Mexico - Help fund The Albuquerque Outreach Program which strengthens communities and fosters economic development by investing in the academic and character development of at-risk children
- New Mexico Film Foundation - Fund one-day of training, consisting of three workshops in Santa Fe, Albuquerque and Las Vegas, NM
- New Mexico Resiliency Alliance - Help fund the Resilient Communities Fund to provide financial and technical support for locally-driven, community-based economic development projects in rural and under served communities
- Santa Fe Business Incubator - Help fund establishing an Innovation Hub
