What is LIHEAP?
The Low-Income Home Energy Assistance Program (LIHEAP) offers New Mexico residents an annual payment to assist with electric and heating bills. The current program is open for applications, and it's essential to apply to receive financial assistance from PNM.
How to Apply for LIHEAP
- Complete the on-line LIHEAP application through the YES New Mexico portal.
- Visit a New Mexico Human Services office with your application to apply in person. You also can get applications at Human Services offices.
Also take the following information with you when you visit the Human Services office:
- Household income for last 30 days
- Identification of the person placing the application
- If not a U.S. citizen, proof of qualified immigrant status
- Social Security numbers for all household members
- Household cost for heating or cooling; the highest bill from the last 12 months
Who Can Qualify for LIHEAP?
Eligibility is determined by factors, including household income and immigration status. Benefit amount is based on other factors, including income, household size, household members' ages, disabilities.
Income guidelines
Your total household income must be at or below 150% of the Federal Poverty Level (FPL) to qualify for the Good Neighbor Fund. Guidelines presented below:
